Folkmanis Woolly Sheep Hand Puppet

The farm moves into the living room: the Folkmanis woolly sheep Hand Puppet arrives with a movable mouth, printed facial features, eyelashes and a densely curled coat that ewe will admire. The cast for any pasture story is ready.

Domestic sheep are among the oldest of livestock; their descent from the Asiatic mouflon goes back some 10,000 years. A wild sheep sheds its fleece by itself each spring, whereas many bred varieties grow wool continuously instead. That wool carries lanolin, a natural grease that beads water and keeps the animal dry through days of rain. Cloven hooves give surprisingly sure footing on rock and wet grass, an inheritance from the mountain homeland of their ancestors. While grazing, a flock drifts slowly in one shared direction rather than spreading across the field.

Did you know that sheep have horizontal, rectangular pupils? They widen the field of view to almost three hundred degrees, so a grazing animal still registers what happens behind it. When a sheep lowers its head into the grass, the pupils rotate to stay level with the horizon.
