This standing white rabbit keeps things plain, and that is exactly what makes it work: no frills, just a cleanly made animal. Large as life and twice as cuddly – once you pick him up you won’t want to put him down.
Pure white fur in rabbits usually comes from one of two quite different genetic causes. True albinism removes all pigment from the animal, which is why the skin and eyes look pinkish, with blood vessels showing through. Other white breeds instead carry a masking gene that switches off pigment production without affecting eye colour, so the eyes stay dark. White colouring ranks among the oldest traits deliberately bred in domestic rabbits, prized since the 19th century for both fur and meat. Wild rabbits are occasionally born white too, but rarely survive long without the camouflage of a normal coat.
Did you know that a happy rabbit will leap into the air and twist its body mid-jump? Keepers call this little burst of joy a binky.
