Folkmanis Jack Rabbit Hand Puppet

Leap into play with the Folkmanis Jack Rabbit puppet. Movable mouth and forelegs give boundless energy and lend to the lighthearted trickster symbolism of this native American animal.

The jack rabbit lives across the prairies, semi-deserts and rangeland from the south-western United States down into Mexico. A grown animal weighs two to three kilograms and measures a good half-metre, with the ears alone accounting for a fifth of that length. It digs no burrow at all: by day it presses itself into a shallow scrape in the shade of a bush, known as a form. Grasses and herbs make up most of its diet, supplemented in dry months by mesquite twigs and cactus, which also supply water. Flushed from cover, it runs in zigzags and throws in high leaps to look back over the grass at whatever is following.

Did you know that young hares are born with open eyes and a full coat of fur? They lie scattered in separate hollows rather than in a nest, and the doe usually visits just once a day to suckle them. Within a few days they are already nibbling at grass.
