Turns inside out and curls into a ball! Don’t hedge your bets! This hedgehog puppet has places for all five digits, has a soft, short plush face and underbelly and a shaggier back and head. It can turn inside out to form the kind of ball a real hedgehog rolls into for protection from predators.
The West European hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus) lives in hedgerows, gardens and woodland edges across much of Europe and is mostly active at night. It feeds chiefly on insects, earthworms, slugs and snails, and occasionally carrion, tracking food down with a keen sense of smell. Fully grown it reaches 20 to 30 centimetres in length and weighs 600 to 1,200 grams before hibernation, often considerably less afterwards. From November to March it hibernates, letting its body temperature drop close to that of its surroundings. Its coat of spines is made of modified hairs, each raised individually by its own small muscle.
Did you know that hedgehogs can have up to 5000 spines which they use as a defense against predators?
