Folkmanis Mini Field Mouse Finger Puppet

An all-time favourite among the Folkmanis finger puppets, this charming mini field mouse has mottled brown plush, little black beady eyes and big soft ears.

Field mice of the genus Apodemus are known by their large, thin-skinned ears, dark protruding eyes and a tail about as long as the body. They live along field margins, hedgerows, woodland edges and gardens, digging tunnel systems with separate store chambers. Seeds, nuts, buds and berries form the bulk of the diet, with insects added over the summer. They move about at dusk and through the night, covering ground in long bounds and using the tail for balance. Few reach a second year in the wild, but litters follow one another from spring until autumn.

Did you know that field mice lay out their own signposts? At junctions along their night-time routes they drop conspicuous leaves, twigs or empty snail shells, then use those markers to cross open ground and find the way home. When researchers moved the markers, the mice promptly followed the new line.
