Snuggle up with this furry, floppy, realistic feline. This ragdoll cat Hand Puppet is true to its breed. With relaxed paws and a long fluffy tail, it looks almost boneless. Made of long, chocolate-tipped plush with white markings.
The ragdoll took shape in 1960s Riverside, California, where Ann Baker built a new line from a white long-haired cat and several toms of the neighbourhood. Ragdolls rank among the heaviest domestic cats: males reach six to nine kilograms, while females stay noticeably lighter. The breed is known for a semi-long coat with little undercoat, a sturdy frame and eyes that are always blue. A ragdoll only reaches full size at three or four years of age, later than most other breeds.
Did you know that ragdoll kittens are born pure white? The gene behind the darker points on ears, mask, legs and tail responds to temperature and colours only the cooler parts of the body. The first shading appears after a few days, and the pattern takes months to settle into its final form.
