Parrot lovers will caw over this handsomely coloured Scarlet Macaw puppet. Easier to teach than the real thing, his vocabulary can be polite or as bold as his colours! Hand enters from under the tail to animate the beak and body.
The scarlet macaw (Ara macao) is native to the lowland tropical forests of Central and South America, ranging from southern Mexico into the northern reaches of South America. It favours rainforest close to water, where tall, old trees provide nesting and roosting sites. Fruit, nuts and seeds make up most of its diet, including varieties that are toxic or unripe and best avoided by other animals. Its powerful beak cracks open hard shells that few other birds can manage. To obtain minerals and neutralise plant toxins, scarlet macaws regularly visit clay-rich riverbanks known as clay licks.
Did you know that the scarlet macaw, in particular, is renowned for its striking coloration and ability to mimic human speech? These vibrant birds are not only loved for their bright colours and charming behaviour but also for their intelligence and social skills.
