Small enough to sit in a child’s palm, this baby turtle in bright green plush has movable feet and a mouth that opens. Pull the front of the shell forward and the little one disappears inside. Shy at first – and quick to become a favourite.
In most turtle and tortoise species, the female lays her eggs on land in a nest she digs herself. A clutch can hold just a few eggs or several dozen, depending on the species, maturing in warm, moist soil. Incubation usually takes between two and three months.
