The Folkmanis chipmunk Hand Puppet is an adorable wildlife puppet with pudgy cheeks, signature stripes and a bushy tail. Easy to animate with movement in head and all four legs, this woodland critter will tunnel to your heart.
Chipmunks (Tamias) live in the deciduous woodland of North America, and most of that life happens underground. A burrow can run several metres, with separate chambers for sleeping, for stores and for refuse, and an entrance tucked away under a root or a stone. Each animal holds its patch alone and tolerates a neighbour only in the breeding season. Come autumn, acorns, beech mast, seeds and fungi all go into the larder.
Did you know that a chipmunk does not sleep through the winter? It wakes every few days, eats from the store beside it and drops off again, unlike a dormouse living off its own fat. The larder therefore has to last until spring.
