Description
A little fright is fun for children as long as they decide when the witch appears and when she disappears again. A hand puppet on their own hand makes exactly that possible. The witch hand puppet by Sterntaler wears a black pointed hat and a green dress with a picture of a cat against the moon and stars.
In German Kasperle theatre and in many fairy tales, the witch is the adversary who works with cunning and magic and is overcome in the end. In the Brothers Grimm's Hansel and Gretel, she ends up in her own oven. In Kasperle theatre she is a stock character: wherever she appears, Kasper needs more than courage – he needs a clever idea. On Sterntaler's CD Kasperle-Geschichten 2, the witch appears in two of the eight stories.
Did you know that the witch's cat comes from old folk belief? Animals such as cats and toads were thought to be the helpers of women skilled in magic, and a black cat is still part of the fairy-tale witch today. This hand puppet carries her cat with her too – as a picture on her dress.
