Adorn your finger with the colourful Folkmanis finger puppet mini chameleon. In cheery shades of green with orange accents, this little lizard has a movable mouth and a tail that wraps around your finger.
No vertebrate has stranger eyes than a chameleon. The two turrets swivel independently and between them cover very nearly the whole circle, so one eye can watch the path ahead while the other checks the branch behind. The moment an insect appears, both lock on and gauge the distance. The chameleon judges that distance by focusing, rather like a telephoto lens, instead of comparing two viewpoints as we do. That is why the tongue still finds its mark when only one eye is working.
Did you know that the smallest chameleons would sit on a fingertip? Nano-chameleon, described from Madagascar in 2021, measures barely two centimetres when fully grown and ranks among the tiniest reptiles known. It was found in the leaf litter of a mountain rainforest, hunting mites and springtails.
