Description
A fairy tale at the kitchen table needs no stage, just a finger and a character every child recognises at once. The Sterntaler finger puppet princess is exactly that: her crown and pink dress mark her out as a king's daughter at a glance. Slipped onto a finger, she is ready to join in straight away.
With hand puppets, a scene with two characters takes both hands. With finger puppets, one is enough: the princess sits on one finger and a second finger puppet on the next. That leaves the other hand free, for instance to turn the pages of a storybook.
Did you know that the German word for princess, ‘Prinzessin’, carries two feminine endings at once? It combines the French princesse with the German ending -in. ‘Prinzessin’ is recorded from the early seventeenth century, while the shorter form ‘Prinzeß’ stayed in use alongside it into the nineteenth century.
