Dragon - finger puppet by Sterntaler

On the big stage the dragon strikes fear; on a finger it does exactly as it's told. The dragon finger puppet by Sterntaler is a tame pocket dragon that a child commands all by themselves. Alternating green and red scales mark it out as a dragon. Fear of the monster soon fades once you are the one wearing it on your finger.

In children's books the dragon has changed a great deal over the 20th and 21st centuries: the monster of old legend has become a figure to make friends with. Tabaluga, created by Peter Maffay and Helme Heine, has stood for friendship and care rather than threat since 1983. Ingo Siegner's Der kleine Drache Kokosnuss, known in English as Coconut the Little Dragon, has had adventures in print since the early 2000s as a curious, helpful young hero. For many children today a dragon is first and foremost a friend, and only then a monster.

Did you know that Coconut the Little Dragon also started out very small? The very first story was written in 1999 as a birthday present: Ingo Siegner stapled loose pages together for a neighbour's son. Only later did it grow into one of the best-selling children's book series in the German-speaking world.
