Snail Soft Toy - Hansa Creation Plush

The Snail by Hansa Creation carries a spiral-patterned house on its back and stretches both feelers curiously forward. Its soft body is easy to hold, making it particularly comfortable for smaller hands. During circle time or storytelling sessions, the plush snail can bring garden and nature themes to life. In animal-assisted therapy, it works well as a calm, unhurried conversation starter — snails radiate a natural sense of tranquillity. Like all Hansa Creation animals, this soft toy is entirely handcrafted: every piece of fabric is individually cut and sewn, and the filling is made from recycled PET fibres.

The Roman snail (Helix pomatia) is the largest land snail in Central Europe, reaching up to 10 cm in body length with a shell diameter of around 5 cm. It favours light woodland, hedgerows and gardens with chalky soil, which it needs to build its shell. As a strict herbivore, it uses its rasping tongue — known as a radula — to scrape algae, wilted leaves and soft plant matter from surfaces. During dry or cold spells, it seals its shell with a chalky lid and enters a dormant phase. In the wild, Roman snails live for around eight years, though in human care they can reach up to 30.

Did you know that a snail's radula can carry up to 40,000 tiny teeth? It uses them to rasp food directly off surfaces. Another remarkable feature: Roman snails are hermaphrodites and fire a so-called love dart during mating — a small chalky spike that they drive into their partner's foot. Only around one in 20,000 specimens has a left-coiling shell. These rare individuals are known as snail kings.
