Otter Soft Toy - Anima Standing Plush

The Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra) is an aquatic mustelid that inhabits rivers, lakes and coastal waters across much of Europe. Its body is perfectly adapted to life in water: webbed toes, closable ears and nostrils, and a flat, muscular tail serving as a rudder allow elegant diving and rapid swimming. Otters can stay submerged for up to eight minutes and reach speeds of twelve kilometres per hour. Their territories stretch along watercourses for distances of up to 40 kilometres. In Germany they were long considered endangered but have been expanding their range again in recent years.

Did you know that otters genuinely play with one another? They repeatedly slide down riverbanks or snow slopes, chase each other through the water and toss pebbles from one paw to the other. This play behaviour does not serve solely as hunting practice — researchers have observed adult otters playing with no apparent purpose, seemingly just for the fun of it.
